The inkjet printer is one of the most common identification devices on packaging lines, yet model selection varies greatly across processes. Correct selection must balance material, speed, content and total cost.

First, the substrate. Plastics, glass, metal, cartons and films differ in ink absorption and adhesion. TIJ and CIJ printers fit different surfaces; UV printers rely on UV curing for stronger adhesion and scratch resistance.

Next, printing speed and character size. High-speed lines need models with higher jetting frequency; large characters call for DOD printers; high-resolution marks with barcodes/QR codes favor high-res or UV models.

Then the content and variable data. For dates, batch numbers, serial numbers, barcodes and QR codes, choose models supporting software templates, auto-increment and clock synchronization.

Finally, total cost and maintenance. Consider ink/diluent consumables, head cleaning frequency and failure rate. We recommend sending real samples for trial printing before final selection.
